The Immersion – Submersion Business Theory

So, our theory is based around a scenario you may or may not have heard before. A simple question that can define a person or businesses success.

Would you rather walk into a lion’s den with bare hands or well-equipped with a whip and chair?

The premise is simple… If you chose to have a whip and chair, you would be immersing yourself in the lion’s space; just like running a business you’re trying to find the right way to provide value to your target audience.

However, If you chose to walk in the lion’s den with no supporting materials, it would be like trying to conquer your industry with no plan or support. In our business theory we call this approach submersion.

Now our theory is simple. If you’re a business or entrepreneur that has immersed themselves in their industry. Yet, they still don’t see success. It’s usually solved with a simple solution.

Realizing the right value and target audience and delivering it to them.
Easier said than done right?  We will get to the solutions a little later.

To go a little deeper on this… Our theory has been huge part of my life for over 20 years.  Being a passionate musician from a very young age the only way I knew how to learn was by jumping head first into music. Taking classes, watching VHS tapes (for the millennials a prehistoric media format lol), literally immersing myself in everything I could to become better at the art.

In business, I work the same way. Always looking to my peers in the industry through seminars, webinars on going learning and studies. While sharing our theories, knowledge and case studies to provide value and support to my clients and those who need it – much like this article.

But what about those working in an industry who don’t know the value to share? Or who just struggle to find the right audience? It can be a challenge. One we know can push businesses and owners to the brink of failure.

Our brave bare knuckle business owners!

If you chose to walk in the lion’s den with no supporting materials and have no plan or ideas of value to share or even a target audience – we haven’t forgotten you.

Having a plan or goal to succeed is crucial in any industry. But understanding the WHO is probably the biggest challenge. We all know people who want to run before they can walk. The truth is you must fall a hundred times before your first steps are even taken.

So what can both parties do today to overcome these challenges?

Ask A Question!

Rather than starting your idea with what to sell, think about what it will solve. Every successful business is built around its customer base and looking to fix their problems. Something that sticks with me today is a famous Henry Ford quote. Don’t find fault, find a remedy.”

Do your market research, ask your current clients why they use your products or service? If you’re just starting out look at Google and Yelp Reviews to see what solutions your competition’s providing.

Be Different

Everyone knows the huge success Apple has had. Success which stems from a huge change in the way the business portrayed itself. Steve Job’s revamped Apples persona in several ways but the iconic “Think Different” revolutionized Apple and its consumers. The focus on the experience not the price tag.

The key here is to build an amazing service or product and stand by why it will help those in need of it.

The Proof Is In The Pudding

Technology has now given us ways to show off our consumers thoughts and values. Social proof should be used to your advantage. If you have a dental clinic or accounting firm with a hundred happy clients. Get the reviews and testimonials everywhere, every platform.  Use this social proof to create trust in your service to potential clients.

We have a downloadable PDF article here on 10 Tips On Increasing Social Proof.

TRACK EVERYTHING!

Anyone of Reason 2 Design’s clients will tell you, we are a little crazy on this. Analytics – User Metrics – Customer Conversions etc. absolutely every possible thing you can track – DO IT. Numbers don’t lie, they can tell you if a new product really is doing well? Is the copy on a Paid Ad working? What users are doing on your website?

The more you know about your audience the better you can serve them.

Keep it Simple

The last one we will share with you is KISS. Keep it simple stupid. Everything from marketing to management. Over thinking things usually ends up being an expensive waste of time.

Focus on delivering quality in the easiest way possible. Think of Nike one of if not the biggest shoe brands on the planet. Just Do It. A very strong and simple statement that gets the point across. If you are thinking management be sure to have policy and procedure manuals through out the office on every aspect of your business. A go to guide for new staff means reduced time in training.

Although this may only be the start to fighting that lion, we hope it’s one you find informative and valuable to your business. We have several case studies and articles to help business owners and entrepreneurs on their way to success. Be sure to check them out!

Here are two of our latest:  Dental Clinic Case Study #3   &  Immigration Lawyer Case Study #1
